Future of Europe. After the last week EU summit, MEPs will discuss the outcome of the meeting with Council and Comission Presidents Tusk and Juncker, and they will kick off the debate on a roadmap for the future of Europe.
Posted workers. EP start talks with governments on the revised rules for posted workers, as MEPs are expected to back the negotiating mandate in the plenary. The new rules aim to settle the principle of same remuneration for the same work in the same place to ensure fair competition and better labour protection.
Protection of journalists and whistle blowers. The groups will discuss further media freedom and protection of journalists in the wake of Daphne Caruana Galizia’s assassination. She was a Maltese journalist reputed for her work on the Panama papers and corruption in general. The EP WILL recommend measures to protect whistle blowers in the public interest.
Sexual harassment. Following the worldwide #MeToo campaign, MEPs will discuss actions taken in the Union to fight sexual harassment and abuse.
External border checks. An electronic entry/exit system is set to a vote in order to replace current manual passport checks at Schengen external borders. The proposed system is to register several data on incoming persons from third countries admitted for a short 90-day stay, and to share the information with all external border checkpoints with the dual aim to stop illegal entry and to track over-stays.
Glyphosate. A draft resolution to phase glyphosphate out prior to its total ban by 2020 will be put to a vote.
Fertilisers. New internal market access rules will be voted. Their aim is to boost the use of organic and environmentally friendly fertilisers in Europe. They will also introduce limits for Cadmium, a heavy metal linked to potential health and environmental risks.
Sakharov Prize 2017. The winner of the award will finally be decided by EP President Tajani and the group leaders on Thursday and announced at noon.
President’s diary. Antonio Tajani will near the Chairman of Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency, Dragan Čović, on Monday. He will chair the plenary debate on the EU summit outcome and the future of Europe in the morning and attend the inauguration of the Alsace-Moselle Memorial in Schirmeck in the afternoon.
Pre-session press briefing. The EP Press Service will offer a briefing with the groups’ spokespersons at 16.00 on Monday in the EP conference room in Strasbourg.
