Bulgaria: Road to Eurovision

2018 will be the twelfth time Bulgaria competes in Eurovision Song Contest since its debut in 2005. The country was absent in two edition in 2014 and 2015, due to financial problems in the first year and due to political problems in the second one.

The country’s best result is a second place in the last Eurovision, in Kyiv, with the song Beautiful Mess of Kristian Kostov.

This year Bulgaria will be represented by the song Bones by EQUINOX, a five-member band that were formed specifically for the Eurovision Song Contest. The members, who have have never performed together before, are three bulgarian singers Zhana Bergendorff, Georgi Simeonov, and Vlado Mihailov and two american singers Johnny Manuel and Trey Campbell.

About the members

Zhana Bergendorff, born in 1985, she has lived in South Korea and Denmark, where she entered X Factor Denmark. She rose to fame when in 2013 she won the second season of Bulgaria’s X Factor.

Georgi Simeonov is a singer, songwriter and vocal producer. He debuted in the popular Bulgarian boy band 032, but began his solo career in 2013 with songs like Po-dobre.

Vlado Mihailov is a Bulgarian singer-songwriter and actor and he is the frontman of the popular Bulgarian groups Safo and Sleng.

Johnny Manuel is originally from Michigan in the United States. He rose to fame with his incredible performance of Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing on America’s Got Talent in 2017.

L.A. based songwriter Trey Campbell is one of the composers behind Bones and therefore plays an important part in Equinox.
