Norway: Road to Eurovision
Since its debut in 1960, Norway has participated fifty-six times at the Eurovision Song Contest, with only two absences. The first one in 1970, as protest against the new voting structure, and in 2002 when they were relegated.
Norway has won the contest three times. The first victory comes in 1985 with Bobbysocks and the song La det swinge, the second one in 1995 with Secret Garden and the song Nocturne and the third one in 2009 with Alexander Rybak and the song Fairytale.
And this year, Norway has chosed its last winner, Alexander, with the song That’s How You Write a Song.
Alexander Rybak was born in Minsk, Belarus. At the age of 5, he and his family moved to Oslo. In 2006, he won Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation’s talent competition Kjempesjansen (The Big Break) with his own jazz inspired composition, Foolin’.
