Czechia: Road to Eurovision

2018 will be the seventh time Czechia competes in Eurovision Song Contest since its debut in 2007. The country was absent in five editions of the Contest, after receiving no points in the semi-final of the 2009 and a lack of interest from the Czech public, Czech broadcaster decided to withdraw from future contests.

In 2015, Czechia made its return with the song Hope never dies, singed by the couple Marta Jandová and Václav Noid Bárta, who failed to achieve the final.

This year the country will be represented by Mikolas Josef, a composer, producer, singer, multi-instrumentalist and director of music videos.

Aged 17, Mikolas won the highest meritorious award from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts; the Gold Medal with distinction for solo acting, but he has not yet taken up a career in acting.

Mikolas rose to fame in his home country with his second single Free, and with the next single Believe he gained the chance to move to Vienna, where with Nikodem Milewski he worked on the song Lie To Me.
